Solar panels for a 3-bed house in the Southern Suburbs — worth it?

Getting quotes. Best I've found is R85,000 all-in for a 5kW system with a 10kWh battery. Load shedding has been better but I want energy independence. Anyone done this recently? What payback period are you seeing?

Cape Town Cycle Tour 2026 — is anyone already training?

Just done my first long ride since the Tour and my legs are completely destroyed. Anyone else training for next year already? Would love to find a training group in the Southern Suburbs for weekend rides.

Western Cape schools — how to choose the right area for your kids?

We're relocating from Joburg with two primary-school-age kids. Prioritising good schools, safety and reasonable commute. Considering Rondebosch, Claremont and Pinelands. What do parents think of each?

Stormers season review — can we go all the way in the URC playoffs?

The 34-12 win over the Lions was convincing but I'm still worried about the away games in the playoffs. Our record in Ireland and Scotland in recent seasons hasn't been great. Is this the year we bring the trophy home?

Taking my wife for our anniversary next month. Have been to Franschhoek a few times but never done a proper food and wine tour. Any hidden gems or places that are worth the splurge? Budget is flexible.

Best independent coffee shops in Cape Town right now?

The big chains are fine but I want to support independents. Loving Truth Coffee on Buitenkant but want to discover more. Particularly interested in roasters who source African beans. Any suggestions?

Is Paarl the new Stellenbosch?

Prices in Paarl are up 13% this year. The town has genuinely improved a lot — better restaurants, a revitalised Main Street, the Pearl Valley development. Is this the next big property hotspot or is the hype getting ahead of reality?

The Cape Flats crime situation — what's actually working?

I grew up in Hanover Park and I'm watching the Cape Flats Covenant initiative with cautious optimism. Community-led solutions are the only thing that will work in the long run, but they need sustained funding. Has anyone been involved with or seen the results from similar programmes in the past?

Zeitz MOCAA — worth the ticket price?

The Freedom Forms exhibition has been getting great reviews. I haven't been since they reopened fully. Is the permanent collection worth revisiting alongside the new show? And can anyone confirm if they're still doing the free Sunday for SA residents?

Favourite Cape Town wine farms for a Saturday afternoon?

Looking for somewhere you can pitch up on a Saturday, do a proper tasting, have a great lunch and not feel rushed. Kids-friendly would be a bonus. Preferably within 1 hour of the city. What are your go-to spots?

Running the Two Oceans Ultramarathon — training tips from veterans?

I've done the half twice but I'm targeting the full 56km ultra for the first time next year. I'm a solid runner (sub-4hr full marathon) but the ultra distance is new territory. Anyone who's done it before willing to share a training plan?

Is Atlantic Seaboard property actually worth it anymore?

Looking at a 2-bed apartment in Sea Point for R4.2m. It feels insane. But then again it felt insane at R3.5m two years ago and people who bought then look smart now. Would you buy right now or wait?

The traffic on De Waal Drive is getting completely out of hand

Does anyone else feel like De Waal Drive is now just permanently gridlocked? I commute from Wynberg to the CBD every morning and it's taking 45+ minutes each way. The MyCiTi rerouting hasn't helped at all. What's the long-term plan here?

Cape Town versus Johannesburg for remote workers in 2025

I can work from anywhere and I've spent 6 months in both cities over the past two years. Cape Town wins on lifestyle, quality of life, outdoor activities. Joburg wins on... actually I'm struggling to make the case. Who's made this move and doesn't regret it?
